ASSESSMENTS

The approach you described is commonly known as a comprehensive or formative assessment. It aims to evaluate a child's learning and progress over time in various contexts and settings, including both formal and informal activities. By employing multiple methods of assessment, including continuous monitoring and end-of-course testing, educators can gain a more complete and accurate picture of a child's strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.

Continuous monitoring allows teachers to assess a child's progress regularly and provide timely feedback to guide their learning. Non-formal methods like assignments, projects, surveys, experiments, quizzes, and research work can provide valuable insights into a child's understanding, skills, and application of knowledge in real-world situations.

End-of-course testing, on the other hand, provides a snapshot of a child's learning at a particular point in time. Typically, these assessments involve pen and paper tests with multiple-choice, short-answer, and long-answer questions. While they may not capture the full range of a child's abilities, they can provide valuable information on their mastery of specific concepts, skills, and content.

Overall, a comprehensive assessment approach that combines continuous monitoring and end-of-course testing can provide a more accurate and detailed understanding of a child's learning and progress. This, in turn, can help educators tailor their teaching to meet each child's individual needs and promote their overall academic success.
